Amazon Canada Stops FBA Prep Services: Navigating the July 1 Policy Shift

A Major Shift in FBA Operations

Amazon Canada’s upcoming update represents one of the most operationally disruptive changes to the FBA network in recent history. Specifically, effective July 1, 2026, Amazon is completely terminating  its internal FBA Prep and Item Labelling services across all Canadian fulfillment centers.

Before vs. After July 1: Quick Comparison

What Changes Before July 1, 2026 On & After July 1, 2026
Barcodes & Polybagging Sellers could ship products without barcodes or individual packaging. Amazon did the prep for a fee. Amazon will no longer apply barcodes or pack individual items. Everything must arrive at the fulfillment center 100% ready for FBA.
Financial Risk Unprepped inventory was eligible for refunds if lost or damaged. Unprepped inventory loses 100% reimbursement eligibility if lost or damaged.
FBA Acceptance Amazon would fix minor labeling or packing mistakes for a fee. High risk of total shipment rejection.

Amazon’s System-Wide Deployment Strategy

This policy shift follows a proven timeline we have already witnessed in the United States. Amazon implemented strict Inbound Defect Fees in the US marketplace on March 1, 2024. Later, in early 2025, they added complete reimbursement restrictions for unprepped cargo.

Consequently, Amazon Canada is introducing a similar strict approach starting July 1, 2026. This means Canadian sellers can no longer rely on Amazon to handle their item prep. Moving forward, brands are entirely responsible for preparing and labeling their products before they arrive at Amazon warehouses.
